Dear Holland’s Family,
Grace and peace to you.
As we enter into this, the second week of the holy season of advent, we do so anticipating the celebration of Christ’s birth in just a few weeks. This week in worship we will turn our attention to John the Baptist, the fiery cousin of Jesus. About thirty years after the births of Jesus and John, the latter assumed a key role in God’s salvation history. John is the forerunner of Jesus’ ministry. He is the one God appointed to publically announce the coming of the expected Messiah. The Baptizer comes proclaiming, “Repent for the Kingdom of God has come near.” (Matthew 3:2, NRSV). Our scripture focus this week is Matthew 3:1-11 and the sermon is entitled How to Get to Bethlehem.
