Holland's United Methodist Church

April 2018

Easter is over for another year. That even sounds depressing. It is almost like I can feel “spiritual air” leaking out of the “spiritual balloon” we call the church. And yet, that statement is not right. It is not right theologically because we serve a RISEN SAVIOR!!! It’s not right emotionally, because every Sunday in the Christian church should be “little Easters." It is not right spiritually, because we should be sharing, celebrating, and proclaiming Jesus' teachings, love, and grace every day we are alive! The correct statement is that the calendar date set aside for Easter has passed, BUT the heart and soul of Easter is alive and well!!! One of my wife’s favorite songs is “He Lives." Perhaps the words of this old hymn can remind us why Easter is not really over, and why we should be a spirit filled, joyful and celebrating “Easter People” every day!

"I serve a risen savior. He’s in the world today. I KNOW THAT HE IS LIVING WHATEVER MEN MAY SAY; I see His hand of mercy, I hear His voice of cheer, and just the time I need Him He’s always near.”

This wonderful hymn ends with this verse:

“Rejoice, rejoice, O Christians, lift up your voice and sing, eternal hallelujahs to Jesus Christ the king! The hope of all you seek Him, the help of all who
find, none other is so loving, so good and kind.”

The simple gospel truth is that you and I are Easter people every day!!! And my prayer, hope, and goal is that Holland's UMC and therefore you and I, live that every day! Rejoice O Holland's, it’s EASTER, today, tomorrow, and every day until Jesus returns or we go through those pearly gates!!!!
