No, for those of a certain generation, I am not referring to the rock song, “The Final Countdown” by Europe that was popular in 1986. I am referring to the fact that today, December 11th is exactly two weeks until Christmas Day! I imagine some of you groaned, swallowed your gum, or spit out your coffee or wine! For children these two weeks will last forever, but for the rest of us … well, it’s panic time; but it shouldn’t be. I have always found that no matter how frazzled Debbie and I got during this season, when our boys were little, we still somehow got to Christmas day with just the right mixture of Santa Claus and the Savior (Santa and Jesus will be a devotional a little closer to Christmas).

So here we are, 14 days from Christmas. Are you excited? I am, but not for all the reasons you might think. I am excited because of our church. I am excited about what we have to offer and share in these last 14 days. To begin with, there is a Christmas Concert by our contemporary worship team, “ByGrace”. Their program is entitled “What a Beautiful Name – A Christmas Worship Concert”. I don’t know if you have been able to hear our ByGrace group lately, but they have been fantastic and this moment would be well worth your time. It will help you grow spiritually and discover the true wonder of the Christmas message. It will, of course, be live streamed from our church website (hollandsumc.org) but you can also see it in person with all our COVID safeguards in place on Friday night, December 18th at 7:00PM in our main sanctuary and on Sunday night, December 20th at 6:00PM in the same place (if you plan to attend in person, you must pre-register on our website so we can be safely prepared for all in attendance). We will even have overflow area(s) if needed. We have been doing live indoor worship services since July 5th and they have gone very well, so feel free to join us on one of those nights to help your journey to Bethlehem!

We are also having 3 CHRISTMAS EVE SERVICES! The first is a drive-in worship experience, designed for our young families at our traditional drive-in location about .2 miles from the church in a big field. It will be at 5:00 PM and feature glow sticks for the candlelight part of the service. We will have communion, lots of Christmas hymns, and a Christmas sermon. We will be decorated with lights and maybe even a special visitor in a red suit!

The second Christmas Eve service will be at 7:00 PM in our main sanctuary and it will be a contemporary Christmas Eve Celebration.  It will also feature candlelight, communion, and Christmas music from our contemporary worship team, ByGrace.

Finally, there will be a traditional 9:00 PM Christmas Eve service featuring candles, communion, Christmas hymns, and a Christmas Eve sermon (this will NOT be a lesson and carols service this year). Of course on Sundays December 13th and 20th we will continue to celebrate our Advent/Christmas journey with Christmas hymns, videos, scriptures and sermons.

This is going to be a really fun countdown this year. So instead of panicking over the “final countdown” why not join us to experience the complete wonder of the Christmas story and help your soul to truly “prepare Him room”!   Amen & Amen.
